St. Jude Charity Event -
August 15, 2015 @ 10:00 to 3:00
Hey it's St. Jude Fundraising Event time again! As you know, last year we all united and together we raised close to $15,000 for St. Jude Children's Hospital. To all who supported the event, thank you so much! We could not have done it without you!
Our goal for 2015: Surpass $15,000!
The event: I've invited select martial arts schools to perform a kata (choreographed fighting routine) for the event. There will be 49 performances in total.(I'm actually using my birthday as an excuse to create a catchy title for the event, hence, 49 Kata for 49 years.)
Some of the groups and individuals who will be participating (or sending representatives) include:
Sensei Bruce Nguyen and Sensei Chad Eagen- NKD Martial Arts
Sensei Prince Loeffler- Shyugyokan Shorin Ryu Karate
Sensei Maria Evans-Shozen Martial Arts
Sifu Rob Moses
Ryukuu Matsuri Daiko (Okinawan Taiko Drumming)
Sensei Kahea Kamahele - Shotokan Karatedo
Sensei Jayson Mancia and Si-Gung Angie Abad-Mancia
Sensei Milo Cudanes
Sensei Russell Anamizu
Sensei Elaine Yamano- Yamano's Shorin Ryu
William Ford - Japanese Dance and rope sickle kata
Kumu Randy Chang's Hula Halau
Sensei Larry Fouts- Progressive Martial Arts Academy
Members of Kaizen Dojo
And several others!
I will be approaching more schools and instructors over the next few days. Once they commit, I will update the listing.
In addition to some amazing performances, there will also be plenty of free food, door prizes, and, of course, some of the coolest people on the planet teaming up for a great cause. And yes, YOU, are one of these awesome people!
Last year, one amazing kid, Reece Yoshizawa of the NKD Martial Arts school, raised $500 with a glass jar and a note attached explaining what his goal was. Another kid from Kaizen Dojo gave $5 in coins from his piggy bank. Really, at the end of the end of the day, the amount is not so important as the spirit of coming together to help others.
Thanks for your interest in Kaizen Dojo for St. Jude!
Help St. Jude Children's Research Hospital change the way the world treats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.
For the past 50 years, children from around the world have come to St. Jude, where physicians and scientists have pioneered treatments that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to 80 percent today.
Because of St. Jude supporters, countless children have enjoyed a lifetime of moments they might otherwise have missed.
Thanks to committed fundraisers and donors like you, no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.
St. Jude shares its research discoveries worldwide, so one child saved at St. Jude means thousands more saved worldwide.
